Sula - Paint & Peel Nail Polish

I have this nail polish in Dove. When I found it, I was so excited because I'd been searching for that color grey for months. Once the polish dries, however, the color was much darker, and was really more of a raisin-y mocha than anything close to dove grey. In addition to the finished color disappointment, I was also majorly put off by the instant chipping of the polish. I don't do anything overly taxing to my hands or nails, and this polish chipped within minutes (even after I tried it again, with a good base coat to try to anchor it). I guess it sort of peels itself off, with or without your permission. When I decided to peel it off (after the first day, because it looked so crappy on the ends of my nails), it wasn't overly difficult, but I did feel like I was damaging my nails a little. I'm all for non-toxic polishes, but Sula needs to seriously revamp this formula.

I was careful to buy the Sula Paint and Peels which lasted 6 months, instead of the ones which last for 24. Sulas with a 6-month lasting period, I've discovered, are much thicker and nearly never streak when applied with a steady hand. Conversely, those which last for 24-months seem ridden with various streaking problems (based off my limited experience with only two 24 month bottles, but some of my friends have reported similar cases). The two types can be told apart based on the description on the bottle's label, and the fact that 24-month Sulas have shiny, plastic caps, while 6-month ones have muted, matte-looking caps.

Recently, I wondered if the thickness of the 6-month formula effected the polish's lasting power(the polish dries in a thick rubbery finish, which makes it easy for the paint to snag). I love this product. It is a short-term product; I put it on in the morning, and I can take it off completely at night. It leaves behind no residue or color around the nail bed. I am not a person who likes to wear polish everyday so the ease of removal is great for me. Before finding this product, I would paint my nails and then have the irritation of using toxic/not always effective nail polish remover just a few days later. I never felt like I could get every last trace of the normal nail polish off. Plus, normal nail polish sort of bothers my finger tips (probably just not used to it. This kind doesn't. Maybe the lack of chemicals? Also, great for my daughter. I never have to worry about exposing her to toxic nail polish and nail polish remover when we use this product. Great for the consumer that loves a temporary paint job. Not good for someone that is looking for a more permanent paint job.
